This vase is made using a red stoneware with the pinch and coil technique. The green glaze is brushed on, then the pieces is dipped in a matte white for an even coat to meld and smooth the brush strokes. This green glaze is wonderful- based on how thickly it is brushed, it shows from a pale mint pastel, or runs in nearly turquoise splendor (with Frank Lloyd Wright olives in between).
The piece is built from the bottom up- coil by coil. The outside of the piece is rippled, the effect of my thumb joining each coil to the one beneath it. On the inside of the pot, you can see the demarcation lines between each coil as the piece was constructed.
The silhouette of these pieces was meant to be of undulating curvature, almost like a graphed wavelength. Each piece is unique and one of a kind.
