Carved Pedestal Vase with Sky Blue Interior

As my ability to make more complicated forms with marbled clay have improved, I have looked to continue to expand this body of work. This year, it led me to carving. 

The carving adds a fluid yet structured look as the layers of clay throughout the marbled body emerge. I don't use templates as I carve- I look to accentuate the form. The finished vase does beckon to be held, it is very tactile and I hope the owner enjoys each touch and that it is often filled with flowers or dried botanicals. 

This vase is made from porcelain and a Brooklyn red clay. The inside of the piece is glazed making it water tight, while the outside is left bare, but sanded smooth.
