Round Vase from Marbled Clay

Wheel thrown vessel with narrow opening.

The carving adds a fluid yet structured look as the layers of clay throughout the marbled body emerge. I don't use templates as I carve- I look to accentuate the form. The finished vase does beckon to be held, it is very tactile and the grooves catch shadows in a dramatic way.

This vase is made from porcelain and a Brooklyn red clay. Outside is left bare, and sanded smooth. 

• Measures about 8"h x 6."w
• Inside and very top is glazed with a clear glaze, making the piece water tight.
