The elegant trogon is mostly found in Central America, but I can be sighted in southeastern Arizona during the Spring time breaking months. This striking bird is celebrated on this vase- the larger painting surface filled with movement and color. I chose to accent a few areas with gold, but also wanted the glazed surface to be the focal point of the piece, having it turned out so vibrantly.
This piece was created from a wheel thrown body with added sculptural elements and carving. Color is layered throughout the making process at every stage in order to achieve a lively depth in the surface.
