Zinnias thrive in the summer's heat. I particularily love the 'Bernary' variety which unfolds with layer upon layer of petals, appearing as a giant pillow.  I sculpted each of these flowers over a week, petal by petal to cover every inch of a large wheel thrown bowl. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'San Francisco', 'Segoe UI', Roboto, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif; font-size: 0.875rem;\"\u003eProcess:\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eThe initial sculpted pieces was cast in plaster, creating a mold from which successive pieces can be made. The porcelain clay is now pressed into the mold to capture the original detail, a foot is added to the piece to add lift, and the bowl is carved with a petal motif rippling the underside. Once it is loosened from the mold, the rim is hand cut for an organic undulating edge which will vary a bit from piece to piece. A medallion with signature and date finishes each piece. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eGlazes offered are complimentary to each other and were selected to bring forth the design in different notable fashions. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eEmerald\u003c\/strong\u003e - This glaze pools to deep green tones in the recessed areas of the bowl, and breaks in rust tones over the fullest parts of the petals.
