My mom gifted me Glady bulbs from her garden this year, they popped elegantly in coral and cream over a rather chaotic flower bed among the firework orange zinnias, pink edged feathery cosmos and errant sunflowers.  I sculpted each of these flowers over a week, the stems curled around the curve of the bowl. I find the matte blue makes this one feel ancient, as though pulled from the sea.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'San Francisco', 'Segoe UI', Roboto, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif; font-size: 0.875rem;\"\u003eProcess:\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eThe initial sculpted pieces was cast in plaster, creating a mold from which successive pieces can be made. The porcelain clay is now pressed into the mold to capture the original detail, a foot is added to the piece to add lift, and the bowl is carved with a petal motif rippling the underside. Once it is loosened from the mold, the cut out accents are done one by one with a sharp Korean potter's knife. A medallion with signature and date finishes each piece on the underside. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eBrushed Matte Cobalt \u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e- This glaze work softly reflects a cooler light. The color variance is achieved by painting a layer of cobalt glaze over the piece to fully coat, then wiping it away, resulting in a deeper blue in the carved areas. The piece is then dipped in a matte white which softens the color.
